Priorities

My family has always joked that I have been able to squeeze 48 hours worth of activities into 24 hours. I have never had to say “no” to pretty much anything. I’ve always been able to take on as many new adventures or commitments as I want.

Well, now those 24 hours seem to fly by.

For the first time in my life, I feel like I don’t have time for everything I want to do.

For the first time in my life, I am learning what it means to prioritize.

If someone were to ask me what the most important things in my life are, I would probably say, “Faith, Family and Work.”

But is that what my life really looks like? Are those the things that are taking priority?

Probably not.

What I’ve done is identified six priorities in my life:

  • Faith
  • Family
  • Future
  • Fitness
  • Finances
  • Friendship
If something doesn’t fall into these six categories, or if something is contrary to one of these categories, it goes to the bottom of my “to do” list. So what falls into these categories?
FAITH: Spending time reading the Bible, spending time in prayer, tithing, giving back through service.
FAMILY: Spending quality time with my family; helping family when they are in need; building and cultivating relationships.
FUTURE: This is mostly focused on my career. What am I doing to further my career? How am I investing in my own future?
FITNESS: Am I making healthy eating choices? Am I finding time to work out?
FINANCES: Saving money, making smart financial decisions.
FRIENDSHIP: Being intentional about spending time with friends.
By ensuring that all decisions in my life are in line with these six priorities, I am finding myself feeling more focused. More intentional. More balanced.
Looks like the Mini Athlete is feeling that way too. :)

  1. I love your priorities! I think mine are very similar, except I am the girl who tends to put faith last when I know it should ALWAYS be first. I need to be better about that since I do think it is the most important priority!

  2. I can SO relate. I don’t know how to slow down and relax. Having priorities (I love your 6 F’s) does make it easier for busy junkies!

    My priorities are:
    Fitness
    Friends/Family
    Travel/adventures
    Rest

Theses are the things that help sustain me! Oh…and loving the photo of the future athlete. :)

  3. I totally understand! After having 4 months of unemployment and working from home all of last year, I also am feeling the need to prioritize in this season of my life. My priorities look a lot like yours, although I haven’t been intentional about finances or my career. Mostly because I’d like to be a SAHM and author someday.

Best wishes with finding more balance!

  4. I love this! You’ve actually helped me realize how I’ve been prioritizing my own life (and how I want to make sure I continue to do so in the future!). I definitely need to think about this more!
