I enjoy sports more than most women I know, but I have to admit I’m not really into the Super Bowl this year. No offense to any Patriots or Giants fans out there, but the teams just don’t excite me. That being said, I am certainly looking forward to the Super Bowl party I will be attending this evening! Unfortunately, Super Bowl parties have usually resulted in diet sabotage for me but I’m determined to make this year different.
1. Fill up on veggies first.
Is there a veggie platter at the party? Live there. And no, don’t go dunking your veggies in the fattening ranch dip. You’re defeating the purpose. But rather than burying yourself in a bowl of Chex Mix (my personal party weakness) or potato chips, grab a few carrots. The veggies will fill you up and you’ll be less likely to gorge on the buffalo wings. Not sure if the party you’re attending will have a veggie platter? Offer to bring one!
2. Avoid grazing.
If you’re going to graze, be sure to follow Rule #1. But it’s a better strategy to fill a plate. This comes back to my Chex Mix weakness. A handful here and a handful there quickly turns into the entire bowl. Not that I would know from experience or anything. Putting your food on a plate before eating it will better help you determine your portion sizes.
3. Limit liquid calories.
Obviously, eliminating liquid calories is the best strategy. But if you’re going to drink today, be mindful about what you are drinking. One beer can quickly become two and two can quickly turn into three. If you’re not careful those liquid calories will add up quickly!
And above all else…enjoy the game (and the commercials)!
What are your tips for avoiding diet sabotage on Super Bowl Sunday?

I am like you, 1st time I am not interested in the SuperBowl & I LOVE football. Thanks for the tips on sabbotage! They are awesome for some like me who can fall short of perfect at parties

Thanks for sharing these Great Tips on sabotage. I have a weakness when it comes to gatherings, this will help!
LOVE this! Thank you so much. Going to be a challenge but sooooo doable!
I will be sabotaging. Not gonna lie.
I really enjoyed your tips. I’ll probably be sabotaging myself, no lie. I’ve offered to bring a low-fat, low-cal dessert I found on Chobani’s website. The hostess will be providing a fruit-and-yogurt dessert and pizza. I doubt there will be much healthy food available, so I can at least eat some fruit and veggies before I go so I’m less tempted to eat 3 slices of pizza and “drink” 1000 calories’ worth of beer. Great advice!

Love the tips. Along the same lines, opting to cook something yourself instead of ordering in can make a huge difference. For example, last Super Bowl, I bought whole wheat pizza dough, rolled it out, layered it with lean meats and cheeses, rolled it up and baked it at 350 until golden. I’m not saying homemade stromboli is diet food by any means, but at least I got to dictate exactly what went into it. Sure beats take-out.
Enjoy the game, and good luck with the portion control tonight!

I watched the superbowl and it’s on here in the middle of the night. Midnight snacking could not be avoided!!
