Princess Inspiration

As soon as I found out I would be running the Disney Princess Half Marathon, I called my “Super Crafty Sister” as we like to call her. She is a middle school art teacher and is one of the most creative people I know. If you’ve ever seen photos of the Princess Half, you know that people dress in all sorts of costumes.

I am determined to be one of those people this year.

Just Google “disney princess running costumes” and you’ll see all sorts of inspiration photos. Not to mention what you can find on Pinterest. Here are a few of my favorites.

1. SO MANY OPTIONS!

Seriously – how amazing is this girl?

running-costumes

I’m a really big fan of the Mrs. Incredible costume. While obviously not a “Princess”, I feel like I can really relate to her, especially now that I’m a mom! But I don’t think I would be a fan of running in that mask…

2. Snow White DIY Inspiration

This girl made a pretty amazing costume if you ask me. I’m loving the sleeves!

Then again, maybe I just want my abs to look like that in my outfit…

3. Creative AND Unique!

While again, not a Princess, that Captain Hook costume is pretty amazing! (Then again, these girls were running the Tinkerbell Half, not the Princess Half…)

But it just goes to show that there is just something about having a little creativity!

So now I’m left with the dilemma – which Princess do I want to be? Or do I really even need to stick to just princesses? If I had to choose, I think my favorite princess would be Belle – but I haven’t seen an inspiration photo for her that I really like yet. Maybe that’s because Super Crafty Sister hasn’t attempted it yet?

Obviously, the key to a costume for the Princess Half is functionality. I will be running 13.1 miles in it after all!

But if we could combine function with some creativity…

I’m hoping we can come up with something amazing!

What would you dress up as for the Princess Half? Do you have any other ideas for me?

  1. I’m going as belle. I had a yellow fun tutu made, and am wearing a gold/yellow strappy tank from running skirts. They are going to have princess inspired skirts at the expo…Belle yellow, cinderella blue, etc. with a blinged out tiara on the lower front corner. so cute!

  2. It sound be so fun to dress up like that for a race! It sound definitely be fun to see so many other creative costumes as you run as well. I would probably dress us as Cinderella or Belle, as I think those are my two favorite characters. Go with something you can easily do without much money!

  3. I dream of running a race in a costume! I’d be down with running a Disney race in Snow White! Maybe even a creative way of doing Ariel?

  4. I need to come up with a costume for my half, but it’s not till May and there’s no particular theme. No idea what I’ll do yet. I think any character would be sweet, you don’t need to narrow yourself down to only princesses! I like the second one, the DIY snow white! I am so not crafty haha.

  5. Which princess did you choose for your bib? I would maybe try and match that. Also, I am a big fan of costumes that allow you to wear actual running gear. If you have a yellow sports top, you can make a fun tutu from some elastic and ribbon/fabric pieces. it would be a nod to the princess while still being comfortable.

I ran the princess in 2010 for my first half and didn’t do a costume, because it was my first long race. I did buy a small tiara to wear for the race so I had something princessy on me. They have some great ones in the princess section (by all the costumes) at the world of disney store at downtown disney. The one I got attached easily, and more importantly comfortably, to my pony tail. It also wasn’t very expensive, even with disney prices.

Have a great time. I loved this race and really wish I was running it this year.

  6. whatever you dress as I’m sure you’ll rock it…
while I sit here..jealous…in South Florida

  7. Can’t wait to meet you at princess!!!! I’ve never had to think of a costume so I don’t know. I like group costumes bit belle is beautiful and fun. you can run with a book! ha!

  8. What did you decide? I am getting SO excited! I pretty much just did that Snow White costume exactly, I’m the least creative person ever! CAN’T WAIT!

  9. I say if Belle is your favorite then go as Belle!

You can take her ball gown and turn it into a costume. Or just her regular outfit that she wears for the rest of the movie – the blue and white dress with the white apron, that could be super cute with say, aqua blue knee socks?!

  10. I wore the Running Skirts Aurora skirt last year.. LOVED it. I also had a shirt custom made for me. Here is the post..http://www.runningbackwardsinhighheels.com/2011/03/01/2011-disney-princess-half-marathon-re-cap/ The front said Princess Rachel while the back said “Today the prince will just have to catch up” on it. I did the Media Event last year.. it’s amazing. You will NOT be disappointed!!

  11. You totally don’t have to stick with princess (although it is very tempting!). My first time doing the Princess I kept it low key with some pink and a tiara but this year I’m doing Snow White. You could go with purple and do a Rapunzel / Tangled theme. Or Belle is always fun – with a yellow theme.

Isn’t picture B Belle? I am going as Snow White in basically that same costume that you posted.
