Back To Our Roots

Thanks for all your congratulations on the news about the new job and the move! We are actually moving about an hour away, back to our hometown where my husband and I met. Did you know we actually met in the sixth grade?

This is what he looked like then. Hubba hubba. I’ll refrain from revealing just how nerdy I looked in sixth grade. Let’s just say, we’ve known eachother a long time. :)

We are excited that the Mini Athlete and his sibling will grow up close to their grandparents and my husband is especially excited that his children will get to wear the green and white of our high school. In fact, this is actually how he announced the news of our move on Facebook – with the Mini Athlete in one of his old high school jerseys:

My new job will be the Executive Director of a non-profit organization. It’s definitely a change from what I do now (student affairs at a law school) but I’m excited about what I’ll be doing!

But first we have to get through this next month. Moving, starting a new job and being pregnant all at the same time definitely adds up in the stress department. We’re leaning toward renting a place when we move (and already have a place lined up for the most part) but part of me still wonders if we should be buying a place. There are so many pros and cons to both.

Timing is everything, right? A year from now we will have two children under the age of two – a two year old and a six month old. I can’t decide if the timing is better now or then!

But one this is sure – we are very excited about getting back to our roots. Our hometown is a small town, but it’s a great one. And it’s a definite perk that we have one of the nicest beaches in the world! :)

What do you love about your hometown?

  1. Looking forward to having you guys back in town! (no more long drives to see my nephew!!!!) :)

  2. I didn’t geta chance to congratulate you and your growing family yesterday, but CONGRATS!!!! How many wonderful beginnings for you! I too am moving back home and cannot wait to start our own family. Best of luck!

  3. That’s great that you’ll be close to your family! And I wish I lived closer to the beach… 2 hours isn’t terrible, but then again the Jersey Shore isn’t exactly FL!

Congrats again and good luck :)

  4. Venice is a cute little town, and I absolutely LOVE Sarasota which isn’t far.
Congrats on the new gig. What is your hubby doing? Will he be commuting to Tampa?

  5. I love that Venice is such a community. Everyone knows each other and helps each other. So excited for you guys!

Congratulations! I also live in a small town, my hometown (for the most part as I’ve lived there the longest). And I am really looking forward to having children here. Best to you! I say go with renting until you figure everything out. You already know the town, but maybe you should re-explore a little before deciding where to set your roots. Enjoy the rediscovery and the lack of pressure of finding THE place as you already have some transitions ahead. Best to you all!

  7. Such a big congrats to you Callie! I am so excited for you and your new job! Soooo amazing! Let us know if you need any moving help! We are more than happy to help wherever needed!!

  8. Congrats on your new job! I made the move into the non-profit sector in February and I absolutely LOVE IT. I couldn’t imagine ever working for a for-profit organization again!

  9. Congratulations on all the new changes. Just a word of advice: check the county courthouse records and the county property records for the home you’re moving into to make sure everything is in the clear. In less than a year we were served foreclosures on 2 different homes we were renting. First one is what cause the move to the 2nd one and was a mere 3 months after we moved in.
Good luck with everything and beautiful (handsome) family!

  10. That sounds like a really neat new job, I’m actually applying to law school soon (taking the LSAT in June!!) and I’m already looking for ways to use my law degree other than a “traditional” attorney type job. I may be emailing you in the future for advice :D

  11. Callie – That is so exciting!! Congrats to you guys…so happy for you! :)

Kyle and I both live within 30 min or less of our hometowns and we LOVE it!

  12. Congrats on your new position! I work in the nonprofit sector and love it! Such a rewarding field!

  13. My dad used to work at Venice HS! I grew up in Sarasota, and I seriously can’t wait to move back/ for my husband and I to start our family with my family close by. :) Best of luck with everything!

  14. I grew up in Sarasota & live in North Port now. I still work in Sarasota & have some family there. It’s definitely my hometown! And I loved running the Sarasota Half Marathon this year–my 1st! I’ve only been reading your blog for a few months but it’s great to read a blogger who is a local!! Congrats on Mini Athlete #2! :)
