A New Morning Routine

The afternoon weather in Florida is pretty unpredictable this time of year. Look one direction and you see these beautiful skies…

But look the other direction and you see this:

Impressive, huh?

I really want to make walking a priority during this pregnancy. I dealt with a lot of hip pain last time (as I’m sure I’ve mentioned before) and I really want to do everything I can to avoid a repeat performance. The pain didn’t really kick in until weeks 20-22 so as those weeks approach, I’m finding myself growing increasingly apprehensive. And increasingly committed to doing all I can to keep myself in shape.

So with such unpredictable afternoon/evening weather, I started thinking about my morning routine. Typically, the Mini Athlete wakes up sometime between 6-7am. He absolutely loves going on walks so this morning I decided to change things up. His dad changed his diaper while I got my walking clothes on, and then I got his morning bottle of milk ready. I loaded him up in the stroller, handed him his bottle, and he was a happy camper! Just look at those adorable baby toes.

We walked for about 25 minutes before heading back inside for me to get ready for work. We both loved the change in routine! Nothing like an early morning walk to start the day – even if he might have felt a little silly walking around the neighborhood in his pajamas. :)

I’m laying my clothes out for another early morning walk tomorrow – I’ll let you know how it goes!

What is your morning routine?

  1. So precious! I am totally hooked on morning exercise. Since we got our dog in January, I start my day with a dog walk, and then jump into my run or weights routine.

  2. What a cutie! I try and wake up around 5:30 or 6, so I can get my exercise done before my kids wake up and before my husband leaves for work.

Hey! New to your blog! Do you live in Venice? The first pic looks like the bridge headed over to the island. My husband and I live in Nokomis with our 2-year-old son. I’m also a working mom! :)

I normally go to the gym in the mornings. And my routine varies from running to the elliptical to weights. I am so not a morning person, but I’ve slowly become one as that is the only time I have to work out so I wake up and get it done. I think it’s great that you can exercise and get the Mini Athlete involved. So cute!

  5. I can’t get over how cute The Mini Athlete is!

  6. My morning routine usually consists of some sort of workout (most days), getting ready for the day, and then catching up on blog stuff and emails–definitely one of the advantages to working afternoons/evenings!

  7. He looks super cute in his pjs!

I have major hip pain all of the time and it really took off during pregnancy. I saw a chiropractor that specializes in pregnant women care and had regular adjustments throughout my pregnancy. Life saver! She also helped open up my pelvis when the time came so I could labor much easier.

Oh how I miss him running to me and laying his head on my shoulder.

  9. My morning routine goes like this, snooze my alarm, cuddle, snooze, cuddle, maybe a 3rd snooze… get out of bed and get ready for work as quickly as possible. Womp haha. I’d love to workout in the morning, especially now that it’s so hot out, but I just can’t commit to it! Maybe I should start going to bed earlier…

  10. We have a lazy morning routine, especially since a lot of night I don’t get home from work until midnight or so. Eli takes like an hour to eat breakfast. I let him watch cartoons (which is probably why it takes him an hour). While he eats, I catch up on email, blog and organize myself for the day. If I have time I’ll start laundry or do the dishes. That way, when he’s done eating, I can devote myself to playing with him!

  11. My morning routine consists of waking up at 5:00 a.m. to make coffee for the hubby and I. Once he is out the door for work, I clean up the kitchen, wash a load of laundry, then work on a blog post, read e-mail etc. I finally get ready for work about 6:30 and get my daughter up about 7:15. I am considering adding in some morning yoga. I could always do it insead of worrying about laundry.

  12. On the days where I am not rushing off to get CJ to daycare we take a walk too. (And I leave him in his pjs too.). It’s one of my favorite parts of the day and I think it’s his too. I think they get relaxed and just like looking around!

I love those baby toes. :) I live in Florida too, so I totally understand the morning/afternoon change of weather. Mornings are the best time to get moving. You son is so beautiful. :)
