My Home Away From Home

We had the pleasure of spending this past weekend at one of my favorite places in the whole wide world. No, it’s not a 5 star resort. No, you’ve never heard of it. But there is nothing quite like it in my mind.

Say hello to “Lake Blue Resort.”

I wish I could fully express just how special this place is to me. Growing up, my family spent 2-3 weekends a year at this “resort” less than two hours from our house. See the little house on the right of the picture above? The grassy area is surrounded by those efficiencies and I don’t know if there is any other place on earth that quite feels so much like home. It’s not fancy, it’s not luxurious…but there is something so comforting about Lake Blue.

I grew up at this place, learning to waterski, kneeboard, wakeboard…you name it, we did it. You know how people have their “happy place”? This is mine. And I cannot thank my parents enough for allowing us to be their guests there this past weekend. It could not have come at a more perfect time.

Because of busy lives and busy schedules, it’s been a while since we’ve been to Lake Blue. Five years to be exact. Last time we were there, we looked like this:

We weren’t even engaged yet – crazy how much has changed in five years!

This time, our entire weekend centered around this guy:

And I think he felt right at home at Lake Blue too. He went on his first boat ride with Grandpa…

Fun fact? My parents have had this little boat for 22 years – and they bought it used! So many good memories in this boat…now add one more.

Grandpa even let him steer the boat!

We had lots of time with my family…

Not to mention all the other aunts, uncles and cousins of mine who were there this weekend too. Lake Blue has always been a bit of a family reunion for us – centered around our mutual love for the water and boating. I love that we’re now able to share that with this little guy…

And I’m already looking forward to more trips to Lake Blue in the future!

Do you have a “happy place”? Where is it?

Part of those fun filled memories came from when Uncle Roger and I owned that little boat and drove up from Homestead AFB to join the family at Lake Blue. We are now joint owners once again and enjoying the “Little Boat that Could” and did pull again and again and again. Who would have known that a purchase in 1989, sold to a family member several years later, and now on its third engine would still be part of our Happy Place? We were blessed to join the family once again after being gone for so many years. So many memories. Love you!
