A Tale of Two Phones

Despite being a blogger, I’ve never considered myself particularly “tech savvy.” I actually didn’t get a smart phone until December 2010 – and I really only got it because I wanted to have one before I gave birth to the Mini Athlete. I knew sharing photos would be so much easier if I had one and I was right.

Now I can’t imagine not having a smart phone. I’m constantly on Twitter (well, Hootsuite), Facebook, Instagram…you name it, I’m on it. My first smart phone?

The Droid Incredible. Yes, the phone you see in all my bathroom self-portraits.

And it really has been incredible. I just commented to my husband a few weeks ago how it’s amazing that my phone is almost two years old and I still think it’s wonderful. That’s pretty unheard of in the technology world.

As long as I can remember, I’ve been a Verizon customer. I have never considered a different provider – the reliability of Verizon is just too good.

I wish you could have seen my face (and heard me squeal) when I got an email that Verizon wanted me to be a part of their #VZWA Ambassador program. I remember the insane jealousy I felt when my friend Meghann joined the program almost a year ago. She’s been with them ever since and I have loved seeing all the cool products she has been able to try. And now they wanted ME to be in the program?!?! Dream come true!

I replied right away – I think it was on a Wednesday – and by that Friday they had sent me a new Verizon phone, complete with complimentary call and data plan. Which phone did they send me?

The HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE.

Pretty much a bigger, badder version of my first (and only) smart phone. As much as I love my original version, it’s amazing how far technology has come in the past two years. I’m still figuring out all the bells and whistles, but I can already tell that the battery life is longer (amazing!) and the camera is fantastic. So fantastic, in fact, that all of the Mini Athlete’s first day of school photos were taken with my new phone. The best part? You can take photos in rapid succession – essential when you’re trying to get a good photo of a 14 month old!

In other news? How cute are his shoes? First pair of Nike’s (scored for $10 at a consignment shop). The first pair of many I’m sure. He absolutely loves running around in them.

Are you tech-savvy? What is your favorite “gadget” these days?

Disclosure: I am participating in the Verizon Wireless Ambassador program and have been provided with a wireless device and three months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product.

I am not tech savvy at all, but I don’t mind. I do have a cell phone but there are some days I wish I didn’t and we could all go back to “simpler” times.

This sounds like a fabulous program! I’m still carrying a pre-paid phone and I know I would love a smart phone! Since I’ve never had a regular phone plan I can deal. The funny part? I’ve had a cell phone for about 18 years, longer than many people. But it’s never, ever been a big plan. It’s always been the cheapest version of whatever is available. My first plan was something like $3.99 a month plus whatever calls I made, so I didn’t make calls except in emergency. Anyway, I just think it’s kinda funny and I’m thrilled you get to try out this new phone!

I am a total gadget freak. I guess these days it would have to be my iPhone. It has proven to be indispensable. I too have had this phone for over two years. I am a believer of the old adage “if it ain’t broke, why buy another.” πŸ™‚

  8. Nice! I love Verizon as well! I just got my first smart phone in February and sadly my screen cracked in March blaaah. I think my only complaint is about how fast my battery drains. Blah. Have fun testingo ut new things!

  9. That sounds like an incredible program!!! πŸ™‚ Now I’m jealous! πŸ˜‰

Thanks so much for sharing. That phone sounds really really cool. I’m a Verizon customer too (and always have been) so I will have to look at this phone in the future.
