Mini Athlete’s First Haircut!

We did it. We finally did it.

The Mini Athlete got a haircut.

It needed to happen. This is him the morning of his haircut. Check out that poof!

As necessary as I knew it was, it still wasn’t easy. I love all those big baby curls! I actually had a hard time finding a hairdresser in our area willing to cut his hair. Apparently not too many are familiar with mixed baby hair. But we received a recommendation for a hair salon about twenty minutes away and I booked the appointment.

I could not have been happier with the Mini Athlete’s first haircut. He absolutely loved it! Seriously his reaction when she started cutting. Maybe he knew it was time too?

Such a happy little camper.

The stylist knew what she was doing and finished right before the Mini Athlete started getting fidgety. His new cut looks so good!

Such a handsome little man.

When did your baby get his/her first haircut?

We almost made it to 15 months!

  2. Ahhh, he looks adorable with his new cut! Cal was over a year old. It was actually right after his first birthday. He didn’t have much hair. Mack was a little younger, but I actually can’t really remember (2nd child syndrome, although I know it’s in my scrapbooks). Mini-A is a heartbreaker!

  3. cuuute! my daughter is a week older than mini athlete and she is not anywhere near a first haircut hahaha..

My son is grown now, but I remember when he got his first hair cut. He was 1 year old. That was one of his birthday presents. The texture of his hair was the same as the mini athlete. I was at work when his hair was cut so I don’t know what his reaction was. I missed his hair. I am sure he was better off without it.

Of course the mini athlete is so handsome. :)

  5. My daughter got her bangs trimmed for the first time at 18 months and her first real haircut at 2 years old. I many have teared up a little when the stylist snipped away her baby curls.

We are right behind you – probably sometime this month. I want his hair on the longer side but he has a big poof too :) !!!!

  7. Awww… he looks so precious! We started trimming Eli’s hair at home when he was about 1. His first real haircut at a salon was at 20 months. It is about time to go again, too!

That first picture cracks me up. I don’t know if it’s the poofiness or the pose in the chair or the look on his face like “What? You lookin’ at me?” or a combination, but I can’t help but smile!

  9. He’s absolutely precious. My son got his first haircut at around 20 months, but he was a white blond baldy for a longtime :)

  10. what a precious little peanut!! he looks so good!! <– not that he didn't before :D

  11. What a doll! He is the most handsome little man. :D

We’re STILL waiting on giving my daughter her first cut, and she’s 27 months! She was such a baldy until recently. Now that she finally has hair, I’m not sure I’ll be able to bring myself to cut it. #mommyproblems.

  12. Oh my goodness what a cutie! Love how happy he was during the cut! :)

My son was over 2. He had Nellie Olsen curls falling all over his head, but was never confused with being a girl, probably from his big belly & a cookie in each hand. I cried when we got his hair cut. Now (age 14), when his hair gets a bit long, it starts to curl up & I love it, but he quickly had it in crew cut before I have a chance to play with it…. If only he would realize how much teenage girls LOVE guys with curly hair…

  14. Super duper adorable!!!!! :)

  15. Oh my goodness. So cute!!!!!!!!!

  16. How cute!! It’s looks like you handled it pretty well, too!

  17. Oh my goodness! Just when I didn’t think he could get any more adorable!

Our 9 mo. old probably won’t get his first trim till he is 2…he still has mega fine old man hair with a peacock fan in back. ;)

  18. He looks so cute!!!

With my first, he was 11 months old and had a horrible mullet so we just had to do it. Thankfully my SIL is a hairdresser so she did it without causing any tears. With the 2nd little man we made it longer (he had less hair) and he only needed a little trim off the back so he didn’t get food stuck in it all the time.
