If there’s anything you can learn about my two pregnancies, it’s that no two pregnancies are the same. I have a feeling the same is going to apply to my postpartum fitness journey.
First pregnancy? I gained 40 lbs.
Second pregnancy? I gained 22 lbs.
One week later, I’m already down 14 pounds.
I have all kinds of ideas about why this pregnancy has been so different, and I’ll probably fully write about those at some point. But here I am, one week after giving birth, 8 pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight.
It took me MONTHS to get this far after my first pregnancy. At least three months. Maybe more. From a numbers perspective, at least. I obviously still have a long way to go to get my level of fitness back.
But there is lots of time for that. Right now my days are full of snuggles and sniffles.
Yes, I’ve been fighting a cold since before Little Miss Athlete was born. Or I thought it was just a cold. We took her to her first doctor’s appointment on Wednesday. She got a perfect bill of health!
Me? Not so much. Her pediatrician (who is actually my doctor too) took one look at me and said, “Let me examine you first.” Apparently I have a nasty sinus infection, but hopefully will be getting better soon now that I’m on antibiotics. It certainly has made a sleepless week even more exhausting!
But hopefully I’m on the upswing now. We even took our first family walk last night!
It felt so good to get some fresh air. Obviously any “exercise” is a long way away, but I’m sure I’ll be back to my “wannabe athlete” ways before too long.
Right now, I’ll just be snuggling with this precious little one…
Because if there is one thing I’ve learned on this journey of motherhood it’s that the days are long but the years are short. And I intend to enjoy every moment.
