Body After Baby (Round Two): 1 Month

Well, here we go again! Doesn’t it feel like I was just starting a Body After Baby series? Oh wait, I was…18 months ago. Time flies.

As a recap, here is where I was one month after giving birth last time.

I probably should have chosen a different outfit this time around – hope it’s not too confusing!

I keep saying that my two pregnancies were very different, and my weight gain was a perfect example of that. Last time I gained 40 pounds. This time? I gained 22.¬†And at one month post-partum, I’m down to about 3-4 pounds above my pre-pregnancy weight and about 6 pounds above what I was before I got pregnant the first time.

Just as a point of reference – it took me about 8 MONTHS to get back down to this weight/size after my last pregnancy. Craziness.

So this “Body After Baby” journey will obviously be different. I’m already back in most of my pre-pregnancy clothes and I doubt you’ll be seeing dramatic weight loss. But trust me, there is still a LOT of work to be done! I wasn’t at my “goal weight” pre-pregnancy, I’ve lost all of my “fitness” and I’ve already signed up for some races this year despite the fact that I haven’t run since May. I’ll be doing a post soon about my “Body After Baby” goals…coincides pretty well with the start of a new year!

  2. You look great! I’m excited about your races – which ones are you doing? I’ll have to live vicariously through you!!

    That is so interesting about the weight gain… did you eat healthier/workout more or was your metabolism just different?

    • There were a lot of life/environment changes that happened between my pregnancies – and I think they definitely played a role. I walked a lot more with my second pregnancy and I do think I ate a lot healthier because I changed jobs and my old office was full of junk food ALL the time. I think I’ll do a post soon about the lifestyle differences – because there were a lot!

    • I wasn’t either last time! Trust me, being this close to my pre-pregnancy weight this quickly is a complete shock to me. But know that you CAN do it! I lost the 40 lbs I gained last time – it wasn’t easy, but you CAN do it! :)

    You look great! I didnt gain near as much weight with my 2nd either. And I lost it alot faster. I often wonder if it was from chasing a toddler around, but I also think with the first I took the eating for two way too seriously! Lol

  15. The difference is amazing, and you look great! I have to say, as a recent first-time Mom, I really appreciate that you show us the pics from after your first pregnancy. I think it helps me “connect” more because I’m still struggling so much to get the weight off. I’m SOOOOO not one of those “oh, the weight just melted off & I didn’t even do anything” types of people, lol. Of course, you look beautiful in all the photos, but it makes me a little less jealous to see that your first pregnancy wasn’t so easy (and to read that it took you 8 months the first time around!!!) Anyway – good for you! It’s really incredible to see the difference, and you look great!

  17. Wow! Huge difference from first time to the second! That’s amazing! I’m new to your blog, but what do you think caused the major difference? Just being active more in general? Now I don’t feel so skeptical about crazy pregnancy weight gain – not that I am even close to having a baby. But wow! Also, I think doing the shots in the same outfit is actually the best way to show comparison. Thanks for sharing!
