If there were a prize for most life changes in a year, I think I would win it.
- Ran my first (and second!) half marathon (February)
- Found out I was pregnant (March)
- Got a new job (May)
- Moved to Venice/Started new job (June)
- Bought a house (July)
- Nate got a new job (August)
- Mini Athlete started “preschool” (September)
- Gave birth to Little Miss Athlete (November)
My goal for 2013?
To have a BORING year.
And to not be pregnant.
(All kidding aside, having two kids in two years means I have been pregnant for part of 2010, 2011 and 2012. Whew!)
Get back in running shape, get faster than before, and PR at my half marathon in November.
Enjoy every moment with my family. If there’s anything I’ve learned as a mother it’s that the days are long, but the years are short. I don’t want to miss anything.
Focus on priorities. Recognize what is truly important and what is just “fluff”. I read this quote recently and it really resonated with me,
“If we desire to fulfill His kingdom agenda for our lives, we must resist the tyranny of the urgent, choosing to slay dragons rather than merely kill houseflies.” -“The Quiet Place” by Nancy Leigh DeMoss
So many times, the “tyranny of the urgent” distracts us from achieving our goals – and often, from simply enjoying our lives.
It’s my goal this year to focus on priorities. My mom’s friend recently said life really boils down to three things:
And I think she is right.
So whether it’s the email notification on my phone, the pile of dishes in the sink or the loads of laundry that need to be done…it’s my goal this year to ignore the unnecessary “urgent” things when it’s time to focus on the things and people that really matter. I hope you’ll do the same.
Happy New Year!
