Anything But Boring

If there were a prize for most life changes in a year, I think I would win it.

  • Ran my first (and second!) half marathon (February)

My goal for 2013?

To have a BORING year.

And to not be pregnant. :)

(All kidding aside, having two kids in two years means I have been pregnant for part of 2010, 2011 and 2012. Whew!)

Other goals?

Get back in running shape, get faster than before, and PR at my half marathon in November.

Enjoy every moment with my family. If there’s anything I’ve learned as a mother it’s that the days are long, but the years are short. I don’t want to miss anything.

Focus on priorities. Recognize what is truly important and what is just “fluff”. I read this quote recently and it really resonated with me,

“If we desire to fulfill His kingdom agenda for our lives, we must resist the tyranny of the urgent, choosing to slay dragons rather than merely kill houseflies.” -”The Quiet Place” by Nancy Leigh DeMoss

So many times, the “tyranny of the urgent” distracts us from achieving our goals – and often, from simply enjoying our lives.

It’s my goal this year to focus on priorities. My mom’s friend recently said life really boils down to three things:

1) Memories

2) Experiences

3) Relationships

And I think she is right.

So whether it’s the email notification on my phone, the pile of dishes in the sink or the loads of laundry that need to be done…it’s my goal this year to ignore the unnecessary “urgent” things when it’s time to focus on the things and people that really matter. I hope you’ll do the same.

Happy New Year!

  1. That is a great resolution to have. So many people focus on the unimportant things. Congrats on all your family milestones. Babies are always important and fun. :)

  2. Crazy year! So happy for you and your family. Love your goals for 2013!

Love the “3 things life boils down too”. I totally agree! Just found your blog. My son is 14 months and am pregnant with my 2nd, a girl, so they’ll be 18 months apart. Looking forward to reading more about what life with two under two is like!

  4. You did have a very eventful year! I totally agree with you (and your mom’s friend) on priorities. That’s what I’m focusing on this year.
