Starting Over…Again

And so it begins…again.

I got clearance from my doctor on Friday to start working out. Confession: I actually tried running the day before. The weather couldn’t have been more beautiful and I didn’t want to wait any longer! I headed out the door to try the first day of Couch to 5k. It starts with a brisk 5 minute walk. Easy enough. And then it alternates running for 60 seconds and walking for 90 seconds.

Brilliant me decided to take the Mini Athlete with me. And even more brilliant me then decided to run the first 60 seconds as fast as I could.

It felt great to run – I felt so free!

My first run interval? A 9:20 pace! With a stroller??? That’s flying for me!

But things went downhill from there. I obviously should have eased into things a little better and my pace got slower and slower as I went on. I ran back past the house and was relieved to see Nate walking outside with Little Miss Athlete. She had gotten hungry while I was gone so I had to stop the workout to feed her. Can’t say I was disappointed. I was exhausted!

As you know, I recently moved and I have really been missing my running group in my old city of St Pete – the IRunMommies!


So I decided to start a running group in my own city – say hello to the brand new Island Running Club!




Looks like the colors are still the same! 🙂

I created a Facebook group last week and invited people in town that I know and thought might be interested in running. I wrote that I’d be starting the Couch to 5k program and my husband would be leading a 5k route. Well, you don’t see him in the photo above because he decided at the very last minute to join an ULTRA team for Ragnar Key West. Crazy boy. So my dad jumped in to lead that part of the group.

We had SUCH a great time. Or at least I did. 🙂 Six of us did the Couch to 5k and two did the 5k route. I’m hoping our group will just grow week to week!

There is such strength in numbers. There is NO way I would have gotten out to run at 7am on Saturday if I hadn’t known people were waiting for me. It’s all about accountability!

How do you find accountability to work out?

  4. i just started a C25k program 🙂 i did it last year and it worked so, since i got out of the running routine, i decided to start back at the beginning! happy you’ve found ppl to run with, looks like a run group!

  5. Congrats on your restart! I think blogging is definitely my way of holding myself accountable, but workout buddies always help too! Investing money can be a good motivator too, I want to make it to the gym since the money is already coming out of my account!

  8. You totally need to look up Moms RUN This Town! You could probably start your own chapter through that and then you would have a whole bunch of us on Facebook to back you up with motivation and fun stuff! I didn’t know if you had heard of it before! Plus it’s totally free! Good luck with starting couch to 5k back up again! And that 9:20 pace IS flying!!! Great job!!! 🙂
