That’s one of my husband’s favorite phrases, “Look good, feel good, play good.” What does it mean? It’s probably obvious, but if you look good, then you will feel good. And if you feel good, you will play well. (Yes, the grammar nerd in me constantly wants to correct the phrase, but I just let it go.)
I’m pretty sure he picked up the phrase back when he played high school football. There’s something about knowing you look good in your uniform that makes you want to perform like a champion.
The same applies at work – if I feel good in my outfit, there’s a pretty good chance my day will be more productive than when I feel like a slob.
Quite frankly, over the past week I haven’t looked good, or felt good for that matter. Guess who caught the flu the day after declaring it had left our house? Yep, this mama. The next few days were pretty rough. I’m finally getting my appetite back, but that flu was a beast.
A high point last week? Old Navy sent me a $50 gift card to check out their Active Wear, “Active by Old Navy”. New workout clothes? Yes please! As a mom at home on maternity leave, I tend to live in my workout gear. But to be honest, it’s not too pretty. There is nothing “looking good” or “feeling good” about my workout outfits these days. I knew my wardrobe could use an upgrade! My mom, Little Miss Athlete and I were finally able to head to the mall on Saturday…
And check it out…Old Navy’s Active Wear is 40% off through Wednesday!
You all know I’m a bargain shopper. I rarely buy things new, and if I do, they better be on sale/clearance. I sometimes get offered the opportunity to review expensive workout gear on my blog, and I’m always torn. Should I feature something for all of you that I wouldn’t spend money on for myself? I don’t know. Just because I don’t like to spend $45 on a tank top doesn’t mean you won’t. But thankfully with Old Navy, I didn’t have that dilemma. These are my kind of prices! Sports bras for $8???
I went a little crazy and tried on almost everything in the store. I had gone online earlier in the week and I knew I wanted this jacket as soon as I saw it. It is $30 online, but for some reason it was only $25 in my store. Looks like several of the pieces were priced lower in the store than online. Not sure why, but I’ll take it!
And look! Thumb holes!
I have no idea why I love thumb holes so much, but apparently I’m not alone. I’ve seen a lot of love for thumb holes in the blog world lately. Maybe they’re like footie pajamas for your hands? Nice and cozy.
I thought about getting this tank but decided it wasn’t really my style.
But the pants? Yes please! I told my mom, “I think I’ll just live in these.” Yoga pants are totally acceptable “mom attire”, right? So comfortable. And just $12!!! ($15 online). Told you these are my kind of prices.
I ended up getting this top for $10 (same price online)…
This is an XS so I’m sure it’s designed to be much bigger and flowier (is that a word?) but I liked the way this size fit on me. Oh and it’s the only one they had left in my store. I’m glad my mom talked me into trying it on.
I ended up spending $50.29 including tax and here’s the final outfit:
Yes, I’m wearing flip flops with a jacket. That’s what we do in Florida.
I love how structured this jacket is. Hugs the curves in all the right places. And zips way up to protect against chilly weather. I sure could have used this jacket at the St Petersburg Rock n Roll Half Marathon last year! It was SO COLD.
Here’s a better photo of the tank top. Is it bad that I might wear this tank as “real clothes”, not just workout clothes? I think it’s so cute!
(And the style is great for hiding the fact that I just had a baby seven weeks ago.)
Check out the back – love it.
I’m so thankful for the opportunity to review this workout gear. It feels very high quality, while at a price I’m comfortable (and happy!) with – and I think you will be too.
Sometimes as as mom it is hard to treat ourselves to something new. I know it is for me at least. I buy things for my kids all the time, but I feel really guilty spending money on myself. But every once in awhile, treat yourself. Remember the whole “look good, feel good, play good” thing? It’s true for moms too. When I’m lounging around in worn out, stretched out workout gear, I don’t feel good about myself. You probably wouldn’t either. And nothing motivates me to workout like new workout gear. I know I’m not alone in that. I’m not saying you need to go out and buy an expensive new wardrobe, but buying yourself a new $10 tank top likely won’t break the bank. Go ahead. You deserve it. Just my two cents.
Edited to add: Guess what I found out!! Old Navy has Active Wear in MATERNITY and PLUS SIZES too! And they’re both on sale right now too! Wish I had known this a few months ago…how cute is this maternity top??
