A Running Update

Yes…I am running again!

But not much. It’s a good thing I started a running club here in town or else I’m not sure I’d have motivation to run at all!

As I mentioned, I still am having trouble getting enough sleep and just haven’t talked myself into early morning runs yet. I know they’ll return eventually, but they’re just not part of my reality right now. And I don’t have enough time or energy to beat myself up about it.

So instead, I’ll celebrate what I AM doing! :)

I am still getting out for a weekly run- even on a chilly (for us Floridians!) Saturday morning! The Mini Athlete doesn’t care how cold it is – he always wants to be in the stroller!

(Keep in mind it was probably about 57 degrees when this photo was taken. Haha.)

With the Couch to 5k program, you’re supposed to run three days a week. Despite the fact that I’ve only been running on Saturdays, we are moving forward each week according to the plan.

This week? Run 90 seconds, walk 90 seconds, run 3 minutes, walk 3 minutes…repeat. It wasn’t easy, but we did it. And we were rewarded for our efforts by this beautiful sunrise.

We had a smaller group this week, mostly because some of our running group’s members were running the Ringling Bridge Run – maybe I’ll be up for that one next year!

Our group this Saturday – and yes, I am related to every person in this picture. :)

My husband, me, my uncle Roger, my sister Shannon and my son. I love this extra bit of family time each week! (My mom watches Little Miss Athlete in case you were wondering.) :)

We have a few races on our schedule – the Suncoast Classic 5k in St Pete on March 2 and the Smoothie King 5k Fools Run here in Venice on April 7.

I’ve thought about doing the Winter Park 10k on March 23rd, but I’m not sure I’ll be quite up for it.  Or there’s the St Patty’s Day 8k here in Venice on March 16 – only $15!

So many races, so little time.

I’m feeling pretty good about my runs these days, but know I still have some endurance to build up. I do think I’m running a little bit faster after this pregnancy, but time will tell.  For now, I’m not stressing about time or distance, I’m simply enjoying the opportunity to get out and run with friends and family. Running for the simple joy of it. I hope I never lose that.

How many races will you be running this spring? Anyone doing any of the ones I mentioned??

  1. Congrats on getting back into it! Slow & steady wins the race ;)

  2. Almost positive I’m doing the Winter Park Road Race. Hope you do it too!

  3. I signed up for the WPRR this week — I may walk part of it but it’s just such a beautiful course I couldn’t say no!

  4. Wohoo for getting back into running! I love the Couch to 5K program. It’s definitely challenging but it does a good job of easing your body into things so you don’t feel like you’re going to die!

Man I am so jealous. I wish I could race all the time. Unfortunately I don’t have any planned, because there are none on the camp in Afghanistan where I’m at. So I am looking for virtual runs. Any suggestions. :)
