Day in the Life of a Working Mom: Two Kids Under Two

The first reality of being a working mom with two kids under two?

It’s tough to find time to blog.

I wanted to give you a glimpse of what my daily schedule is like…and I also want to have a snapshot for myself because I know how quickly life flies by.

The Mini Athlete is 20 months old and Little Miss Athlete is 11 weeks old. See? I told you time flies.

So here we go…

2:30am – Little Miss Athlete wakes up for her middle of the night nursing session. I actually cherish this time with her. It’s some of the only uninterrupted “us” time we get.

Sometime between 5:30am and 7:00am – Mini Athlete wakes up. I hear him and my husband turning on Mike & Mike on ESPN and find them snuggling on the couch.

Time to shower, get dressed, make breakfast, pack lunches, nurse Little Miss Athlete, change diapers, get both kids dressed…and get out the door.

8:15am – Head to Little Miss Athlete’s nanny’s house. (My husband takes the Mini Athlete to school). Call my mom on the way. Chat with the nanny (actually our pastor’s wife and WONDERFUL family friend). Say goodbye to Little Miss for the day.

9:00am – Get into the office and get to work.

12:00pm – Head home to pump and eat lunch (my house is only 2 miles from my office.)

12:45pm – Back at work.

5:00pm – Leave work to get Little Miss from the nanny’s house. Come home and make dinner, go for a family walk, eat dinner…

My husband gives Mini Athlete a bath, I nurse Little Miss Athlete, we get both kids ready for bed.

7:00pm – Put Mini Athlete to bed. He still goes down really easily and I love hearing him singing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” to himself as he falls asleep.

8:00pm – Nurse Little Miss Athlete and put her to bed. Clean up house, do laundry, do dishes, RELAX…

10:00pm – Pump, read my Bible, get in bed.

And then it starts all over again.

It’s a busy life…but it’s a good life. Oh and I forgot to mention that in the midst of it all, we’re trying to renovate our bathroom…

Anybody got any connections in the tub industry? I’m in the market for one! 🙂

But  I’ll have to blog about that adventure in another post.

For now, it’s past my bedtime. I hope you enjoyed seeing a glimpse into the busy life of a working mom with two under two!

  1. Double the blessings 🙂

  2. Yep – that’s pretty much how my day goes (minus the under 2 part and, for now, the pumping). Although, it gets SOOO much easier when they can dress and feed themselves. Now, I’m not going to say it’s quicker – just easier! Hang in there girl – you are doing a great job.

As a working person (not a mom yet) I really appreciate your fitness blogging. It is much more inspirational to me than the SAHR (Stay-At-Home-Runners). Thank you.

  4. Thank you so much for sharing this! As a working, nursing mom to a 16 month old who is 19 weeks pregnant, it’s nice to catch a glimpse of what my life will be like in a few months! I honestly teeter between ecstatically happy and TERRIFIED at the idea that I will have 2 under 2 and be working, so it’s refreshing to see someone else pulling it off so well 🙂

I’m exhausted just reading your post. You’re on the go the entire day. You rock!

We remodeled our bathroom a few years ago and instead of replacing the tub we had it glazed in white- It was a lovely 1960’s green. The fumes are pretty bad for a few days and you cannot use the tub for 3 days but it looks really good and the cost was significantly cheaper then buying a new tub.

  7. Callie you are a ROCKSTAR! And such an awesome mommy 🙂

Don’t know how you do it and remain so upbeat! Now that I’m working FT, I can barely handle caring for one toddler! You’re doing a great job Callie!

  9. I’m melting at the cuteness of your children.

  10. And renovating your bathroom at the same time? Dang yo! You are supermom 😀

  11. I am SO amazed and inspired by you!!! I hope to be a working mommy in a few years so I’m sure I will get used to the kind of busy schedule you have but it sounds HARD! I commend you and your husband. You are AWESOME! 🙂

  12. You are a beast. That is all.

  13. So happy and thankful to have found your website. I’m also a full time working mama, I’m currently pregnant with my 2nd baby and really loved finding your site for some motivation on fitness and health. Thanks for sharing!
