Another 5k in the books. I literally had not run since my last 5k over 7 weeks ago. Oops. I wasn’t expecting miracles, but surely I’m not the only one always hopes against all hope for a PR even when you know you haven’t put in the work?
I had been looking forward to this race for a long time. It’s the Sammy’s Run 5k and it benefits Oak Park School (the school in our district for kids with special needs) and the Phelan-McDermind Syndrome Foundation.
The race is named for Sammy Lomas – he’s the one in the wheelchair with the American flags being pushed by his dad, Rich. Sammy has Phelan-McDermind Syndrome – a very rare genetic disorder.
I love races, but I really love races that are for a good cause. This was one of the best I’ve run. It’s one that will go on my calendar early for next year – I don’t ever want to miss it.
Unfortunately, our double jogger had a flat tire, so I ended up pushing Little Miss in this NON-jogging stroller for the race. Slow and steady for sure! I ended up finishing in just over 37 minutes.
My husband? He ended up placing fifth in his age group WHILE pushing a stroller. He’s crazy fast – as you can see from this photo.

I’m down about 10 pounds over the past seven weeks, really just from cleaning up our diet. It is so true what they say, “You can’t outrun a bad diet.” Trust me, I’ve tried. Stay tuned for more about that in my upcoming “Body After Baby: 6 Months” 🙂
