The Mini Musician

We have been calling the Mini Athlete that name since…well, probably since he was in the womb. And he has certainly lived up to the nickname. This child loves to shoot, throw, kick, hit…you name it, if he can do it with a ball, he will. He’s getting quite good, if I do say so myself.

But my Mini Athlete also has a musical side.

He loves singing and playing his guitar. But his musical interests don’t stop there.

And the other night, I had the awesome opportunity to take the Mini Athlete to his first symphony!

This little guy seriously loves musical instruments. He loves them all, but especially loves stringed instruments like the violin and cello. We only made it through about half of the performance, but how much can you expect from a 2 year old? We had a great time at intermission, chatting with the musicians who were SO great with the Mini Athlete. I love introducing him to the arts so early!

I’m also lucky to have a musician in my family. My sister plays violin and brought her violin over the other day to let the Mini Athlete play.

And since he’s so little, and since he loves the cello so much, he played the violin that direction too. :)

I can’t wait to see where his musical interests take him. I have always loved music. My mom forced me to take piano lessons as a child and I WISH I would have kept up with them. It’s on my bucket list to someday pick up playing again (and I even own a piano now), but I have yet to figure out when I’m supposed to practice. I also sang a LOT growing up (and even performed in Carnegie Hall!), but I rarely sing anymore, unless it’s during worship in church. It is so much fun sharing my love of music with my kiddos!

If you could play one musical instrument (that you don’t already play), which one would it be?

I think that’s great that you’re introducing him to the arts so early. I’m glad that he loves it. I play the piano and when I was in high school, I inherited my grandpa’s guitar, so I took guitar lessons. I remember nothing from playing the guitar. I would love to pick it up again some day.
